Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

Jurnal Ekonomi Manajemen Bisnis Syariah dan Teknologi (EMBISTEK) is a peer-reviewed e-journal. This statement clarifies the ethical behavior of all parties involved in the act of publishing an article in this journal, including the author, the editor-in-chief, the editor, the peer-reviewer, and the publisher (Yayasan Azam Cendikia).

Our Publication Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement are based on the COPE’s Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.
As such, this journal follows the COPE Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors and the Code of Conduct for Journal Publishers.

A selection of key points is included below, but you should always refer to the COPE documents for full details.

Duties of Editors

Fair Play and Editorial Independence

Editors evaluate submitted manuscripts exclusively on the basis of their academic merit (importance, originality, validity, clarity) and relevance to the journal’s scope, without regard to the authors’ race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, citizenship, religious belief, political philosophy, or institutional affiliation.

Decisions to edit and publish are not influenced by government policies or any other agency outside the journal. The Editor-in-Chief has full authority over the entire editorial content and publication timing.

Confidentiality

Editors and editorial staff will not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher, as appropriate.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Editors and editorial board members must not use unpublished information disclosed in a submitted manuscript for their own research without the authors’ written consent. Privileged information obtained through handling manuscripts will be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage.
Editors will recuse themselves from handling manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest and will delegate them to another editorial member.

Publication Decisions

All submitted manuscripts are subject to peer review by at least two reviewers who are experts in their field. The Editor-in-Chief decides which manuscripts to publish based on the reviewers’ validation, the importance of the work, and legal requirements such as those regarding libel, copyright, and plagiarism. The Editor-in-Chief may consult with other editors or reviewers in making this decision.

Involvement and Cooperation in Investigations

Editors, together with the publisher, will take appropriate action when ethical concerns are raised about a submitted or published paper. Every act of unethical publishing behavior will be investigated—even if discovered years after publication. EMBISTEK editors follow COPE Flowcharts when dealing with cases of suspected misconduct.
If ethical violations are proven, a correction, retraction, or expression of concern will be published.

Duties of Reviewers

Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Peer review assists editors in making editorial decisions and helps authors improve their manuscripts. Peer review is a core element of scholarly communication, and all qualified scholars are encouraged to contribute to the review process.

Promptness

Any invited reviewer who feels unqualified or unable to review a manuscript promptly must notify the editors and decline the invitation, allowing alternative reviewers to be appointed.

Confidentiality

Manuscripts received for review are confidential documents and must not be shared or discussed with others without permission from the Editor-in-Chief.

Standards of Objectivity

Reviews must be conducted objectively, with clear reasoning supported by evidence. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate.

Acknowledgement of Sources

Reviewers should identify uncited relevant work. Any statement based on previously published research should include proper citations. Reviewers should also alert editors to any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under review and other works they know.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Reviewers must declare any conflicts of interest related to competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with any of the authors or institutions associated with the manuscript.
Unpublished materials disclosed in a submission must not be used in the reviewers’ research without the authors’ consent. Privileged ideas obtained through review must remain confidential and not used for personal advantage.

Duties of Authors

Reporting Standards

Authors of original research must present an accurate and objective account of their work and its significance. Manuscripts must include sufficient detail and references to allow replication. Review articles should be comprehensive and balanced, while editorial or opinion pieces must be clearly identified as such.
Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.

Data Access and Retention

Authors may be asked to provide the raw data of their study for editorial review and must be prepared to make such data publicly available if required. Data should be accessible for at least 10 years after publication, unless legal or privacy concerns prevent this.

Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must ensure they submit entirely original works. Proper citation is required when referencing the ideas or words of others. Plagiarism—including self-plagiarism—is strictly prohibited and considered unethical publishing behavior.

Multiple, Duplicate, or Concurrent Publication

Authors must not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently.
Publishing the same research in multiple journals constitutes unethical behavior.
Secondary publications (e.g., translations or extended versions) are only acceptable with mutual consent from all involved journals and full citation of the original publication.

Authorship of the Manuscript

Only individuals who made significant contributions to the conception, design, execution, data collection, or analysis should be listed as authors.
All authors must approve the final manuscript and agree to its submission.
Others who contributed but do not meet authorship criteria should be acknowledged appropriately.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Authors must disclose all potential conflicts of interest—financial or otherwise—that could influence their interpretation of data.
Examples include funding, consulting, stock ownership, or institutional affiliations. All sources of financial support must be disclosed.

Acknowledgement of Sources

Authors must give proper credit to others’ work and cite relevant publications. Information obtained privately (e.g., personal communications or peer review) must not be used without written consent.

Hazards and Human or Animal Subjects

If research involves hazardous materials or human/animal subjects, the manuscript must clearly describe any associated risks and ethical approvals. Authors must respect confidentiality, anonymity, and participants’ rights.

Peer Review Participation

Authors are obliged to participate in the peer-review process and respond to editor requests for clarifications, data, or revisions promptly and respectfully.

Fundamental Errors in Published Works

If authors discover a significant error in their published work, they must notify the journal immediately and cooperate to issue corrections or retractions.

Duties of the Publisher

Handling of Unethical Publishing Behavior

In cases of alleged or proven misconduct, plagiarism, or fraudulent publication, the publisher, in collaboration with editors, will take all appropriate actions to clarify and correct the record.
This may include publishing an erratum, clarification, or retraction.
The publisher and editors work together to prevent unethical practices and do not encourage or knowingly allow misconduct.
